With the exception of the Profiler, is there another way
to monitor the transaction taking place on the server? I
want to be able to see what users are doing like which
commands they executed and if it fails or not.
Thanks
EmmaEmma,
there are several third-party tools to do this sort of thing eg LogExplorer
could be useful - either looking at historical logs or real-time:

Log / Audit
Hi All,
I want to log all activities happening in SQL server. I already know
some auditing tools do it like:
1- DB Audit
2- ApexSQL
Also I activated SQL server audit log and all of them are helpful but,
the problem is they couldn't capture table fields that users see (not
update/delete/add that trigger stored procedures).
I need to see which fields accessed by stored procedures/users/web
pages and then log this activity.
One possibility I am thinking is to change one of system stored
procedures or add some trigger there and log activity from that point.
I appreciate any reply or help to this question
Thanks,
JackHi
DON'T change system stored procedures. In your case you will have to use
third party tools as you mentioend or writing triggers on ALL user tables
that my hurt performance considerable

log
I checked our SQL server log/ current activities.
There is a message: starting up database tester, and this
is the testing database before we put our real database
on the server. Now we've already changed our application
to use our production database.
But we still get a lot of above messages. and every 20
seconds.
What caused this and what should we do about it?
I delete the database tester now from the server, for we
are not going to use it. I just wonder if this is a
security issue or not? That was probably due to the fact you had the Auto-Close option set to ON.

perform a database restore or log restore, an entry
of 'starting up database xyz' will be written to the SQL
